Ship Security Officer (SSO)
International regulations require that you must do Ship Security Officer Training (SSO) if you are a seafarer who has been, or has the prospect of being, appointed as the Ship Security Officer on a vessel trading internationally.
Some private maritime security companies providing security for ships transiting high risk areas, also require their team leaders to successfully complete the Ship Security Officer (SSO) course.
The Ship Security Officer would have acquired the skills to:
maintain ship security plans;
appreciate security levels;
develop and maintain measures for the control of access to the ship;
conduct ship security and risk assessments; and
implement effective search and security mechanism
This is a 3 days course designed to meet the requirements of the STCW section VI/5, requirements of the ISPS Code sections A/2.1.6, A/12.1 and A/12.2 and is based on the guidelines of IMO Model Course 3.19.

To understand Best Management Practices (BMP) for transiting High Risk Areas (HRA)
